Job Summary:

The OSP Technician will locate and mark fiber, protect network infrastructure, and manage right-of-way (ROW) issues. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently across multiple areas, and excellent communication skills to interact with property owners, contractors, and engineers. The ideal candidate is a proactive and detail-oriented professional who can go above and beyond to ensure the integrity of the network.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Fiber Locating and Protection

  • Screen and manage tickets for fiber locate requests.
  • Accurately locate and mark fiber routes to prevent damage during construction activities.
  • Protect fiber infrastructure when it is at risk of being compromised.

2. Right-of-Way (ROW) Management

  • Drive fiber routes and inspect ROW areas for compliance and potential risks.
  • Communicate with property owners whose land intersects with ROW to address concerns.
  • Coordinate ROW clearing by reaching out to contractors and obtaining bids.
  • Work closely with engineers to resolve ROW issues effectively.

3. Incident Response and Maintenance

  • Respond to planned cable intrusions (PCI) and hot tickets on a 24/7 on-call basis.
  • Perform maintenance and troubleshoot equipment inside Regen huts.
  • Act as a point of contact for emergency repair and restoration efforts.

4. Training and Support

  • Train new OSP technicians on processes and protocols for fiber locating and protection.
  • Provide guidance and support to ensure that new team members meet operational standards.

5. Stakeholder Coordination

  • Attend meetings with city, state, and utility representatives regarding upcoming projects and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Manage communication with contractors and utility companies to facilitate smooth project execution.
  • Serve as a representative during discussions with stakeholders to address and resolve ROW and infrastructure issues.

6. Multi-Area Coverage

  • Manage OSP duties across multiple areas, covering for other technicians as needed.
  • Efficiently prioritize tasks to handle multiple responsibilities in different locations.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in OSP or telecommunications fieldwork.
  • Certifications: Relevant OSP or telecommunications certifications preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction blueprints and fiber maps.
    • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think on your feet.
    • Effective communication skills for dealing with property owners and contractors.
    • Proficient in using OSP tools and equipment for fiber locating and maintenance.
  • Availability: Must be available for on-call duties, including weekends and holidays.
  • License: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
